The Book Fair Is Here!

We were able to go to the Book Fair today from 12:00-12:30.  A few of our students were able to make a few purchases and were so excited!  We took pictures of your little ones with the new BOOKS! We wanted to remind you that our OPEN TIME to shop is from 2:00-2:30 in the afternoon.  When you send in money that is the time they will be shopping.  Tomorrow night is Family Night if you would like to attend and shop with your child.  Be sure to stop by after the PTA Meeting at 6:30pm.

Heads Up for Spring Break!

We wanted to give you guys a Heads Up about some things you could do over the Break.  The Librarian at the Argyle Public Library, Mrs. Thomas, dropped off this pamphlet so that you could plan to spend some time at the Library.  We looked through it and there are so many activities you could do.  We hope that you will look over the pictures and even visit their website to plan to spend some time with your little ones at the Library. If there are any other happenings for the kiddos during the Break leave a comment so that others can get some ideas:)

It Is OVER!

Today we wrapped up our Dr. Seuss Author Study.  It has been an AWESOME two-weeks, and we think we had just as much fun as the students.  We wanted to take a picture of our whole class today wearing their PARTY HATS and holding their OoBleck but because of behaviors that happened we were unable to post them.

Thank you to all of the parents that sent in items so that we were able to complete the activities that we had planned.  Also thank you to those of you who sent in your Family Books for us to enjoy throughout the study.  We are sending those home with your students TODAY, check back packs for them:)

OOBLECK!

Today was Day 2 of our OOBLECK! lesson.  We were able to finish the story of Bartholomew and the Oobleck!  Please be sure to ask your child about Bartholomew and what the story was about.  We were able to experiment in Science by making our own Oobleck!  I am putting the recipe at the bottom of this post in case you would like to make Oobleck at home.  It was really cool for the students to see how it can feel like a solid at times and at other times feel like a liquid.

What You Need

  • water
  • corn starch
  • food coloring (optional)(we use green, to match the book)

Here's How:

  1. Mix 1 part water with 1.5 to 2 parts cornstarch. You may wish to start with one cup of water and one and a half cups of cornstarch, then work in more cornstarch if you want a more 'solid' oobleck. It will take about 10 minutes of mixing to get nice homogeneous oobleck.
  2. Mix in a few drops of food coloring if you want colored oobleck.

Tips:

  1. Oobleck is a type of non-Newtonian fluid called a dilatant.
  2. If you slowly lower your hand into oobleck, it will sink, but it is difficult to quickly remove your hand (without taking all the oobleck and its container with you).
  3. If you squeeze or punch the oobleck, the starch particles will not move out of the way quickly, so the oobleck will feel solid.
  4. Oobleck can be molded in a container, but when the mold is removed, the oobleck will lose its shape.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

This week we have worked on putting our Dr. Seuss Fish in order from 1-20. We didn't realize how many sentence strips they would use...haha...it was pretty funny how long they are. They had a great time cutting them, putting them in order and then coloring them.  We took pictures with their THINGS (made from their hand prints).   If you child did not take it home yesterday...check their backpacks for them today.

Ten Apples Up On Top!

Yesterday we read the book Ten Apples Up On Top! Dr. Seuss gave us a chance to use our math skills to count apples that these WACKY animals are balancing on their heads.  We even had a chance to be Seuss Scientist and experimented with BALANCING ourselves.  Be sure to ask your child about BALANCING and what that means!  We also completed a Math activity where they were able to put Apples On Top of their heads. They were given a number 10-19 and had to draw that many apples on their heads.  They did such an amazing job on them we decided to use them for our Hallway Bulletin Board.  If you child did not bring one home yesterday....they are probably on the Bulletin Board.

**They are supposed to show SURPRISE on their faces...."I can't believe I can balance ALL THESE APPLES!"

Here are the 5 that were selected for the Board:
