Honest Abe

Today our Character Trait was CHARACTER!  We discussed how we can be honest and do what is right to show others we have CHARACTER.  DJ Cody told us the story of Abraham Lincoln and how he became known as "Honest Abe".  It really is a great story...

Abraham Lincoln was working in a town general store, before he got into politics, he had neglected to give a customer the proper change for the purchase made, so after his working shift had ended, he walked something like 17 miles to return a few pennies to the customer. A few pennies is nothing to get excited about in todays economy, and while it meant certainly more in Lincolns time, the story is still regarded as exceptional effort to remedy a relatively insignificant amount. "Honest Abe " was born.

Be sure to ask your child about what they learned about building up their own Character.

We found out that we were for sure the TOP CLASS in the school YESTERDAY!  Here are your prize winners for today!

Keep up the GREAT work TEAM JACKSONVILLE DEVIL RAYS!

WE CHOOSE CHARACTER!

A New Addition....

We wanted to welcome the newest member of ROOM 41!  You guys are SO AMAZING with your outpouring of support for our class. We did not even go 1 day without a camera because you responded so quickly to our sad email.  We had not only 1 but 2 parents send in a camera for us to use so that we could continue to post and send pictures of your LITTLE STARS!  Thank you so much to the JONJOCK Family for donating their camera to our class.  All the pictures we took yesterday were taken with our newest addition.  We really don't know what we would do without all of you.  So without further adieu....here she is!

More Recess??? Yes Please!

I'm sure that you guys are getting tired of hearing about the BOOSTERTHON, but we want to keep you updated on the information we get (and we are getting a lot of information). We have been the TOP CLASS for both days!  We want to thank all of you for the support you are showing for your little ones.  The Boosterthon GUYS have given us our CHALLENGE for today/tonight.  If we are the TOP class with Pledges in the SCHOOL, we get to have RECESS with the Boosterthon TEAM!  The guys will take our students to an EXTRA RECESS (the students are excited about playing basketball, swinging and running with our COACHES).
They tried being serious for our picture, but who are we kidding, they are the BOOSTERTHON GUYS!
Dynamite Dave and DJ Cody

We had A LOT of students get PRIZES today during our Assembly.  Here are our SHINING STARS that have helped us get to the TOP!
You will notice your child coming home with a GREEN sticker on today (hopefully it will make it home).  We discussed the Character Trait of LEADERSHIP!  Dynamite Dave (our Boosterthon Leader) spoke to us about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how he used a microphone to LEAD and INSPIRE those around him.  Our students we asked to say 5 kind things to 5 different people.  TODAY WE CHOOSE LEADERSHIP!!

This is a learning process...

So we are learning something new everyday about our new Fundraiser...Boosterthon!  We have changed our Class Incentives a little bit....they are still Super Awesome...just different.  We hope that you have all had a chance to go on the funrun.com website and look at your child's webpage for their Pledges.

Each of our students will be getting a sticker to show what Character Trait we will be discussing that day during our short Assembly.  The Character Traits they will be focusing on are:

Charcter

Good Attitude

Learning

Leadership

and Fitness

One of the things that I'm sure your kiddos have told you all about are the Prizes.  The students get rewarded DAILY!  Once they have Pledges, the  next day they will get the Prize that goes with how much they have raised.  REMEMBER you can do a FLAT FEE or Pledge PER LAP!  Here are the 2 students from yesterday that received their Prizes for the Pledges they have raised so far.  GREAT JOB RILEY AND ANYA!!!

We have spirit, YES WE DO! We have Spirit, How 'Bout You?

Today is the Kick Off for our Boosterthon!  We have a PEP Rally this afternoon for the kids to learn a little bit more about what this Boosterthon is all about.  We have talked with our TEAM as well about what the Incentives are as well as the GOALS we have set.

We have decided as a class (thank you to those of you who left a COMMENT leaving a suggestion), that we will be the JACKSONVILLE DEVIL RAYS!  All of our students will be participating in the FUN RUN on February 7th, even if they do not get any Pledges.  Everyone will also receive a Bootherthon T-Shirt.  Remember we will not be sending those home until AFTER the Fun Run.  We would feel horrible if someone forgot to bring their shirt that day.  Students will be able to run up to 35 laps that day.

We have also set a Class Goal to see if we can get Pledges from at least 8 states other than Florida.  If you know of any one in another state that could go online and Pledge for your child...we would appreciate it.  Then we will be able to color in another part of our map.  If we reach our Goal of 9 TOTAL States we will have a Whole Class Reward(we are going to beg PTA for Cotton Candy)!!

Thank you for all of your Support! Remember to begin making Pledges you can go to the Boosterthon Website: http://www.boosterthon.com/

We have TEAM SPIRIT!

Today was Team Sports day in Room 41.  We took pictures of those who came showing their Team Spirit!  They were asked to show their MUSCLES!  We hope that you guys enjoy seeing your Little Stars!! Please be sure to show them, they LOVE to see that they are Celebrities on our BLOG!  Make sure to leave a comment as well!

If you don't see your child and they were wearing School/Team Spirit Colors today, be sure that you have signed a Media Release Form.  If you do not have one and would like for us to display pictures of your child, ask us or post a comment and we will be sure to send it home in their folder.

Ten Little Puppies!

We have been working on Functional Writing the past few weeks.  We wanted to show you how hard our Writers have been working.  We began the week with a step by step instructional video on YouTube, that showed us how to draw a puppy.  After watching the video all the students began drawing their own puppies, and were even able to name them.  After they drew their puppies they were then asked to write a step by step Functional Piece that taught someone how to draw their puppy.  Here are some pictures of them working hard!!!  They will continue this piece next week!

Upcoming Events and Important Information

We wanted to give all of you a heads up about our final Field Trip for this year.  Although it is a few months away we want to be sure to give you plenty of time to prepare.  This is a FUN and EXCITING time for our kiddos.  Our last Field Trip will be to the Jacksonville Zoo, and we will be going April 4th.  We are so Happy to tell you that we DO NOT have a limit to the number of Chaperones we can have.  That's right, your heard us, ALL of you can come if you want!!  The more the merrier!  We do have a few reminders (sorry to be a bummer): Our School Policy does not allow siblings to attend Field Trips.

Also, if you would like to be a chaperone you MUST fill out the the Volunteer Application on the DCPS Website.  There is a 2-3 week turn around to be approved...so PLEASE do not wait until the day before, we will not be allowed to have you chaperone.

Things are changing for the safety of our students.  If you would like to Volunteer in our classroom, you MUST fill out the Volunteer Application.  If you would like to have Lunch with your child in the Cheetah Cafe...You MUST fill out the Volunteer Application.  If you would like to Chaperone on a Field Trip....You guessed it....You MUST fill out the Volunteer Application.  Our Principal informed us that ANY AND ALL CLASSROOM VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS MUST FILL OUT THE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION ON THE DCPS WEBSITE.  We joke...but it is VERY IMPORTANT!

Let us know if you have any questions about filling out the form online.

Here is the link on the Duval Schools Website for the Volunteer Application

******We have received NEW INFORMATION! We found out from the District that they are NO LONGER mailing out Volunteer Cards, to let you know you are approved.
