What we are working on in Science

We wanted to share with you what we did in Science today.  We are learning about plants and their parts.  We watched a short video that showed us how a plant grows and it also shows a REALLY COOL Science Experiment at the end.  Don't be surprised if your child comes home and asks you to be a Scientist with them.  Also coming home in their backpacks are their plants that they labeled.  Please be sure to ask your child to tell you the parts of the plant (flower, stem, leaves, and roots).

Meet our FCAT Buddies!

Our FCAT Buddies from Mrs. Eliason's 5th Grade Class came down to give us special Earth Day Cards.  It made our day to know that with everything going on with their testing, they are thinking of us.  Thank you to our Buddies for making our day!  We hope that we are able to do the same for you!

We are Campus Cleaners!

Today's weather allowed us to be CAMPUS CLEANERS!  We had a competition to see if the BOYS or GIRLS could get more trash on the Kindergarten Play Ground.  They were given about 10 minutes to collect as much trash/garbage they could could in the time allowed.  One bag was for the girls and one bag was for the boys.  They were super excited that they were able to use a glove to help protect their hands from the germs on the ground.  Once we came back in Ms. Finocchiaro and Mrs. Kirby were the judges to see which bag weighed more.  After they both discussed their final answer it was decided that the BOYS were the winners!  The girls were a little disappointed but we are ALL WINNERS when we help the Earth to be clean.
Showing us they know which hand is protected from the germs!

Excited to be Campus Cleaners!

Making the Earth cleaner one piece of trash at a time:)

Ms. Finocchiaro weighing the two teams.

Ms. Finocchiaro & Mrs. Kirby declare the BOYS the winners!

Celebrating Earth Day!

Today we were able to join with another Kindergarten Class to plant seeds.  We have discussed different ways we can make the Earth a better place to live.  One is to plant seeds to make more plants and trees.  This afternoon, even though it was a Dreary day, we took part in improving out PLANET!  We want to say THANK YOU to Grandma Jo and Papa for donating the supplies for our Earth Day Project.  We are going to be caring for out seeds in class and will send them home once they have begun to SPROUT.  We have taken pictures of each step so if you would like to have a Family Earth Day Project you can do this at home:)

******An Update on our Projects we did Yesterday....planting the seeds were a GREAT idea!  Planting seeds in an Ice Cream Cone....NOT a GREAT IDEA!  We were able to plant some more seeds today as a class.  When we came in this morning to check on the seedlings, the cones had gotten soggy and collapsed:(  we will be planting even more this week so that each child will have a seed to nurture at home!   ********

Please be sure to review each of the presentations we have posted on the blog with your child.  We will be testing on the BR and CR blends on Friday.  We are even including a SNEAK PEEK of the CR Blends so you might be able to get a head start on it.  Please let us know if you have any questions about this upcoming assessment:)

A House for Hermit Crab

Last week we finished up our Author Study of Eric Carle.  We had such a great experience with the books of Eric Carle, we hope you have enjoyed seeing our pictures from class.  These will be the last of the pictures from this author.  Please make sure to ask you child which book they enjoyed the most.  There are many more Eric Carle books that we were unable to get to because of time.  Check your local library for more books by this amazing author/illustrator.

Little Cloud by Eric Carle

Today in Reader's Workshop we read the story Little Cloud by Eric Carle. We talked about the different things we have seen in the clouds...a bunny, a face, a dinosaur, an old man and a castle.  We took pictures of the students with their favorite cloud formation from the story.  We hope you enjoy them.
